Webflow product management: the complete guide

The short answer

Webflow products live in the Products collection (Ecommerce panel), alongside Categories and SKUs. Add them one by one in the Designer or Editor, in bulk with a CSV in the Designer, or via Zapier and the API. Set a product type (Physical, Digital, Service or Advanced), use option sets for variants, and switch on inventory tracking, because it’s off by default.

Products are the heart of a Webflow store, and since they’re CMS items, they behave a little differently from Shopify-style catalogues. This guide covers the whole lifecycle: structure, adding, organising, bulk importing, stock, limits and updates.

How are Webflow products structured?

When you enable Ecommerce, Webflow creates three collections you can’t delete:

  • Products: the things you sell
  • Categories: groupings, linked to products by a multi-reference field
  • SKUs: the purchasable units. Every product gets a default SKU, plus one per variant

These are dynamic CMS collections, so you can design product pages and lists with the same freedom as the rest of your site.

Default product fields

Every product comes with fields you can’t edit or remove:

FieldNotes
Name (required)Generates the slug
DescriptionPlain text, no formatting
Main image / More imagesSingle image + multi-image
Price (required) / Compare-at priceCurrency comes from your store settings
Product tax classPick a tax class for automatic tax, or “Exempt from taxes”
CategoriesMulti-reference to Categories
MeasurementsWidth, height, length, weight, used for shipping rules
Inventory trackingOff by default
SKUPlain text, for your own reference
OptionsOption sets that create variants

Custom fields

You can add custom fields to Products and Categories in the collection settings: tasting notes, care instructions, allergens, “pairs with” references, a rich-text description, and so on. Field groups aren’t supported on ecommerce collections.

What product types does Webflow have?

Product type decides which shipping and download fields appear:

TypeShipping required?Shows
PhysicalYesShipping fields
DigitalNoDownload fields
ServiceNoNeither
AdvancedYesEverything

Webflow also listed a Membership type, but it relied on User Accounts, which Webflow switched off on 29 January 2026. The same goes for subscription billing, which required User Accounts.

You can use product type in conditional visibility, collection-list filters, SEO fields and as a dynamic value (e.g. a “Digital download” badge on cards).

How do I add a product in Webflow?

  1. Designer: Ecommerce panel › Products › New product. Editor: Ecommerce › Products › New product.
  2. Fill in name, price, images and any custom fields.
  3. Choose the product type.
  4. Add option sets if it comes in sizes or colours. See how to add product variants in Webflow.
  5. Turn on Track inventory and set a quantity if stock is limited.
  6. Create, publish now, or save as draft.

You can also duplicate a product to create a similar one quickly.

How do I organise products into categories?

Create categories in the Categories collection, or straight from a product’s Categories field. The link is two-way: add a product to a category from either side and the other side fills in automatically. Use categories for shop navigation, filtered collection lists and landing pages (“Gifts under £20”).

How do I bulk import products into Webflow?

From the Designer only: Ecommerce panel › Products › Import, then upload a CSV. Get the right column format by clicking “Our CSV template” in the import dialog, or export from Shopify, WooCommerce, Squarespace, Wix and others.

Key columns: product handle (required, unique, letters/numbers/dashes, converted to lowercase), name (required), description, categories (separated by semicolons; new ones are created), tax class, product type, variant price (required), compare-at price, variant inventory, Option1–3 name/value, main variant image (a URL Webflow downloads), variant SKU and dimensions.

Webflow emails you a summary with a downloadable list of anything that didn’t import. Exporting works the same way and gives you a CSV backup of products, variants and categories.

How do I update lots of products at once?

Webflow’s options:

  • Bulk actions in the collection list: select many products at once, as with any CMS collection (handy for clearing out template products)
  • Zapier or the Webflow Data API: add and update products from spreadsheets, inventory systems or code
  • One at a time in the Designer or Editor

Changing prices across 80 variants by hand is the job everyone dreads. That’s where API-based tools earn their keep.

How does inventory tracking work in Webflow?

  • Tracking is off by default (quantity = ∞). Turn on Track inventory per product or per variant.
  • When an item sells and payment is collected, Webflow reduces the quantity automatically.
  • If a shopper tries to add more than you have, they see your “quantity not available” message.
  • At zero, Add to Cart shows the out of stock state everywhere.
  • For variants, each has its own quantity. Any existing product quantity is copied to the first variant.

Webflow’s low-stock tools are shopper-facing. There’s no admin alert when the bestseller drops to four. Flowcommander adds low-stock warnings and products ranked by sales.

How many products can I have?

Ecommerce item limits are separate from your CMS item limit:

PlanEcommerce items
Standard500
Plus5,000
Advanced15,000

Products, each SKU/variant, and categories all count. A product with 6 variants uses 7 items. See every limit in our Webflow Ecommerce limits reference.

Selling products on Google and Facebook

In Settings › Ecommerce › Integrations, Webflow can generate product feeds for Facebook and Google (Merchant Center). Publish your site, turn on sync inventory, copy the feed URL and add it on the other platform. If you unpublish the site or turn sync off, the feed stops.

Product management checklist

  • Custom fields planned (rich text description, specs, help text on each)
  • Product type set correctly (Physical / Digital / Service)
  • Variants: own price, SKU, image and weight
  • Track inventory on for anything finite
  • Categories linked for navigation and filtering
  • Item count checked against your plan
  • Regular CSV export as a backup

FAQ

How do I add a product in Webflow?

In the Designer go to Ecommerce panel › Products › New product, or in the Editor go to Ecommerce › Products › New product. Fill in the fields, then create, publish or save as draft.

Can I add custom fields to Webflow products?

Yes. You can add custom fields to the Products and Categories collections in their settings. You can’t edit or remove the default fields, and field groups aren’t supported on ecommerce collections.

Can I update existing products with a CSV?

Not really. Webflow’s product CSV import skips any product whose handle already exists, and it doesn’t map to custom fields. For bulk updates use the API, Zapier or a tool that writes through the API.

How many products can I have on Webflow?

Ecommerce Standard allows 500 ecommerce items, Plus 5,000 and Advanced 15,000. Products, every SKU/variant and categories all count.

Does Webflow track stock automatically?

Only if you switch it on. New products default to unlimited stock. With Track inventory on, Webflow reduces the quantity as items sell and shows an out-of-stock state at zero.

Can Webflow sell subscriptions?

Not any more, natively. Webflow subscriptions required User Accounts, which Webflow switched off on 29 January 2026. You’d need a third-party tool for recurring billing.
