How to sell digital products on Webflow

The short answer

Set the product type to Digital, switch on Include download and enter a file name and an externally hosted file URL. Add the Downloads element to your Order Confirmation page and publish. Buyers get the link on that page and in a separate downloads email. Webflow supports one file per variant, and you host the file yourself.

Ebooks, Lightroom presets, knitting patterns, fonts, recipe packs: digital products are a lovely business. No packing, no postage, no “where’s my parcel?”. Webflow Ecommerce can sell them natively. Here’s the setup, plus the limits worth knowing before you launch.

Can you sell digital products on Webflow?

Yes. Webflow Ecommerce has a Digital product type with built-in download delivery. Buyers get their file link on the order confirmation page and in a downloads email, automatically, straight after checkout.

What it doesn’t do is host the files, limit download attempts or generate licence keys. More on that below.

How do I set up a digital product in Webflow?

1. Host the file

Webflow links to an externally hosted file, so put it somewhere stable that gives you a direct URL. Pick a host you trust to stay online. If the URL breaks, every past customer’s link breaks too.

2. Create a Digital product

  1. In the Designer, open Ecommerce › Products and click New product (or open an existing one).
  2. Set Product type to Digital. Webflow hides the shipping fields and shows the download fields.
  3. Scroll to Downloads and turn on Include download.
  4. Enter the file name (what the customer sees) and the URL.

3. Add the Downloads element to the Order Confirmation page

  1. Pages panel › Ecommerce Pages › Order Confirmation.
  2. Add Elements › drag Downloads onto the page.
  3. Publish.

The Downloads element lists each file in the order with its name and a download button.

4. Test with a real order

Buy your own product (a discount code helps) and check that the confirmation page shows the download, the Order Downloads email arrives, and the file actually opens.

How do customers receive their files?

Two ways, both automatic:

  • Order Confirmation page: the Downloads element shows a button per file
  • Order Downloads email: sent separately from the order confirmation, containing only the order’s unique download links

Clicking a link opens a download page. The download starts automatically, with a manual link as backup.

Customise the email in Settings › Email › Downloads › Order Downloads, using dynamic fields like customer name, store name and store URL.

Lost email? Open the order and use More actions › resend the downloads email.

Can each variant have its own file?

Yes. Webflow supports one externally hosted file per product variant. That works nicely for:

  • Licences: Personal / Commercial / Extended
  • Formats: PDF / EPUB / PDF + audio
  • Bundles: Single pattern / Pattern + video tutorial

Set up option sets as normal (how to add product variants in Webflow), then open each variant and set its download.

Do digital orders need fulfilling?

They don’t need shipping. Digital products default to Shipping required = No, so the checkout doesn’t ask for an address. They still show up in your Orders tab alongside physical orders, and you can resend downloads from there.

What are the limits of Webflow digital downloads?

Worth knowing before you choose Webflow for a digital-only shop:

LimitDetail
HostingYou provide an external file URL; Webflow doesn’t host files
FilesOne file per product variant
ResponsibilityStore owners must make sure the URL is valid, reliable and legal to sell
Subscriptions / membershipsNot available natively. Webflow sunset User Accounts on 29 Jan 2026

Need download-attempt limits, expiring links, licence keys or recurring billing? Look at a dedicated digital-delivery service or a hosted cart like Foxy.io. See our Webflow ecommerce tools roundup.

FAQ

Can Webflow host my download files?

No. Webflow digital downloads point to an externally hosted file URL that you provide, and you’re responsible for it being valid, reliable and legal to sell.

How do customers get their download?

Through the Downloads element on the Order Confirmation page, and in a separate Order Downloads email containing the order’s unique download links.

Can one product have different files?

Yes, per variant. Webflow supports a single externally hosted file per product variant, so “PDF” and “PDF + video” variants can deliver different files.

Can I resend a download link?

Yes. On the order’s details page, use the More actions menu to resend the downloads email.

Do digital orders ask for a shipping address?

No. Digital products default to Shipping required = No, so Webflow doesn’t collect shipping details for them.

Can I sell digital subscriptions on Webflow?

Not natively any more. Webflow’s subscriptions relied on User Accounts, which Webflow switched off on 29 January 2026.
